If you, or you know someone who, would like to assist the Fernie & District Arts Council provide arts services to the community by being on the Board of Directors, please submit your or their name.

All Board positions are a one year term and nominations are voted on, by the Membership, at the Annual General meeting.

Amendments to the Constitution For Presentation to the Membership At the Annual General Meeting

On May 22, 2008 at 7pm.

Notice of Motion:

Moved by Keith Liggett and seconded by Kevin McIsaac

That the FDAC Constitution and Bylaws be amended as follows:

Addition to the Constitution:

The Fernie & District Arts Council is proposing and will be making a motion at the Annual General Meeting to add the following VISION STATEMENT to the Constitution: “The Arts Station, and the Fernie & District Arts Council, is valued and supported by all community members and visitors as a vibrant and welcoming forum for creative expression and community identity.”

Change to the Constitution:

The Fernie & District Arts Council is proposing and will be making a motion at the Annual General Meeting to change the MISSION STATEMENT in the Constitution by deleting: “The objects of this Association shall be to increase and broaden the opportunities for residents of the District of Fernie to enjoy and to participate in cultural activities and shall include the following activities:

* To promote individual creativity.

* To encourage artistic work, to promote public interest, and raise public awareness of art created both locally and outside the community.

* To bring to the attention of appropriate authorities the arts and cultural needs of this community.

* To raise and solicit funds to generate revenue for self-sufficiency.

* To provide effective management to the Community Arts Programs through planning, implementation and monitoring processes.

To respond to community needs in designing programs and presenting exhibits and performances.

* To identify, interpret and present the artistic heritage of Fernie and District areas in ways that foster interest and pride in the artistic heritage of the community.

* To maintain and manage The Arts Station facilities in cooperation with the City of Fernie and other Arts Station sponsors.”

and adding: “The objects of this association shall be to provide, directly and indirectly, a variety of opportunities for residents of, and visitors to, the City of Fernie to participate in, and appreciate the value of, cultural activities. This will be accomplished by:

* Fostering individual creativity and encouraging artistic work;

* Informing appropriate authorities about the arts and cultural needs of the community, and proactively responding to those needs;

* Coordinating a spectrum of programs, exhibits, performances and events to meet community needs;

* Working in partnership with a broad range of individuals and organizations in the community and region;

* Maintaining and managing The Arts Station facilities in cooperation with the City of Fernie and other Arts Station sponsors;

* Soliciting funds to generate revenue for self-sufficiency in order to increase the positive impacts of the organization;

* Raising public awareness of and increasing exposure to a) art and culture, b) this organization, and c) their value to the community as a whole.”

Election of officers, changes to the by-laws and reports from departments will be presented at the AGM.

The public are invited to attend. Members are eligible to vote.
