Monday, September 13 at 7pm
The Vogue Theatre
Members: $9; Regular $10 at the door

An inspirational true story of a small boy’s extraordinary journey from poverty to international stardom that begins with a grueling apprenticeship as a classical dancer in communist China an ends in the glory of creative freedom in America. But there is a painful price to be paid for his quest for self expression. Mao’s Last Dancer captures the intoxicating effects of first love and celebrity, the pain of exile, and ultimately the triumph of individual endeavour over ideology. Filmed in China, the US and Australia and with a brilliant performance from Chi Cao, Mao’s Last Dancer is an exhilarating exploration of what it means to be free.

Members: $16/adults $12/youth; Regular: $20/adults $15/youth (under 18)

Outspoken and intelligent, Carolyn Mark was destined to make music and take no prisoners doing it. With her subversively witty lyrics and a voice as beautifully varied as her musical styles Mark holds audiences hostage. With an arsenal of songs Mark will pluck at your heartstrings as deftly as she will on the guitar strings. Her gigs are known for their off-balance candor as much as the homespun tunes. Go for the music, stay for the dirty jokes. Tickets available at The Arts Station, Freshies, and Carosella. www.carolynmark.com
