Christine Simpson
To Visually Touch
Opens Thursday, January 26th at 7pm
Show Continues Until Tuesday, February 21
A self taught artist, Christine works in many different mediums incorporating bark, tree resin, bone and other unusual materials into her work. Christine’s art attempts to both capture and inspire the human spirit. Her art is an alchemy of the awe, respect, and the overwhelming inspiration she perceives in nature. The show will take the viewer on a journey of work created from the artist’s reactions to life and nature, a visual feast of mixed media, landscapes, body prints and a few surprises.

Shannon Kelly – Spirit Series
Opening reception Thursday, July 28 at 7pm.
Show continues until Tuesday, August 23.
Working on several bodies of work simultaneously Shannon Kelly’s style of painting is experiential. Beginning without a plan or picture and allowing the painting to develop organically creates series of works that represent a part of who Shannon is and each painting is a piece of that story. The SPIRIT paintings are evocative and surreal and are metaphysical in nature, this is reflected in the multiple layers of paint and hidden meanings.

Opening Reception Thursday, June 30 from 7-9pm
Show Continues until Tuesday, July 26, 2011
The Arts Station is priveleged to have so many volunteers who are not only generous with their time but are also fantastic artists. This gallery exhibit will feature the work of some of the many people who ensure that The Arts Station continues to offer new and exciting arts and culture programs to the community. Events like the Lantern Fest and the Indie Films Fernie Series would not be possible without the tireless assistance of our volunteers. This month we are seeking to highlight their efforts by highlighting their artistic works.
If you are interested in participating in this show please contact Courtney at The Arts Station for an application at assistant@theartsstation.com.

Michael Hepher
New Works and Wood Block Prints
Opening Reception Thursday, April 28 from 7 to 9pm.
Show continues until Tuesday, May 24.
Michael Hepher is a Cranbrook based artist and designer working full-time in the creative field for 15 years. As an avid musician, painter, printer, and graphic artist he has almost constant contact with the creative process and has significant experience in graphic arts, letterpress printing, wood block printing, blacksmithing and metal sculpture. Wood block printing is an appealing medium for both the artist and the viewer as the process of creating a shape is the opposite of most being a subtractive process, rather than additive. To gain the relief needed to print a line, the artist must carve away the negative space. Michael’s woodcuts vary as much as the rest of his creative process, moving quietly from the sublime subject of flora and fauna, touching gently on architecture, and stumbling headlong into the ridiculous with his prints of boom-boxes overlaid with typography. His sense of line is constantly evolving as he discovers new ways to push inks together. Often the prints end up not where he expected, but moving zen-like to where they were truly meant to go.
