“Once upon a summer” is an exploration in childhood adventures and the love for outdoor play. It features paintings, all acrylic on canvas. The show is inspired by Mimi watching her children play in nature. These romps helped her evoke her own childhood memories about imaginary play, challenging your fears and the beauty in little discoveries around us. To Mimi, these paintings are stories of adventure and joy painted on canvas.
Mimi Sahlstrom is originally from Stockholm, Sweden, where she completed a Bachelors of Arts with a Major in the History of Art in 2000. She came to Fernie for the skiing and ended up staying. Mimi now lives in Elko with her spouse and two kids. There is a love for evening light in her paintings and she labels her work as “contemporary romantic” and “mystical realism”.
You can now find Mimi’s work at The Fernie Arts co-op.
