The much loved Banner project is back for another year and we are calling out to the amazing artists that call the Elk Valley home to once again contribute by submitting your entries below. For over the past decade, Elk Valley artists have added their own air to the city’s streets, offering works of art for banners that line Highway 3 and downtown. Banner Project The Banner Project highlights the diversity of the artistic community of the Elk Valley and brings Fernie’s downtown to life, celebrating the imagery and identity of the city. Come and see the newest banners to be displayed in Fernie featuring local artwork in a variety of mediums. The Fernie banners are hung around town and on the highway, displaying beautiful artwork for all to enjoy. 39 pieces of work have been selected from this year’s submissions and will be featured on the newest banners to be hung in Historic Downtown Fernie this spring. 2022 Banner Launch What is sponsoring a banner?! Sponsoring a banner means you are supporting and contributing to Banner Project and public art in Fernie. After the 2 years the banners on display are replaced and the previous banner becomes available for the Sponsor to take home. However, as the banner is a public art piece which has been exposed to the Fernie elements it may be weathered, have tears in it, or occasionally have gone for a float down the river. By sponsoring a banner you understand that there is no refund and the banner will be “as is”. FDAC or the

Jolene Miner ‘Paper Mountains’ Artist Statement I’m crazy about paper. I’m enchanted by the delicacy and colour of origami paper, the weight and texture of Saint-Armand handmade paper and the transparent quality of lightweight mulberry. I get lost in the colourful piles scattered over my table. There’s an undeniable tactile quality to it that makes working with paper so pleasing. I’m also fascinated by concepts like the flattening of planes, sharply defined colour areas and powerful line work, and I find myself delving deeply into collage in order to explore these ideas using paper. Story Of The Station 2020 is the 30 year anniversary of The Arts Station but the building originally dates back to 1908 as the community train station. The Fernie & District Arts Council is embarking on a project to research, collect and record the Story of the Station from its original life 1908 to present day. We want to hear all and any stories of the building to capture this history and ensure it legacy. The result will be a digital permanent exhibit at The Arts Station.
