Community Arts Assistant
The Fernie & District Arts Council is seeking an enthusiastic student to join our team and support the day to day operations of the Fernie & District Arts Council. This is a temporary Student position for a 5 month period, but has potential for the right candidate to continue in the role.
Skills
- Must currently be enrolled in school and a student. 15+
- No specific experience is necessary but an interest in arts & culture, non-profits and/or administration is a must!
- Willingness to learn.
- Open to and provide new ideas and innovative thinking.
- Can demonstrate reliability e.g. through previous work experience or volunteer/school activity and participation.
- Evening and weekend availability. Able to commit to hours and complete shifts alongside other commitments including school work.
Further skills that would be an asset:
- Proficiency in computers & digital applications specifically social media.
- Works well independently & problem-solving skills.
- Communication skills – verbal, written, listening & computer literacy.
- Customer service skills for internal and external audiences.
- Organized, ability to track and follow up on action items.

Responsibilities
- Assist the team with the facilitation of community events and programs at The Arts Station. This includes but is not limited to the following:
- Check in attendees for programs and studio appointments.
- Gallery attendant & exhibit set up.
- Provide assistance at events and programs including set up, facilitation and evaluation.
- Admin tasks- update website, social media, date collection & input.
- Customer service- answering phones, emails & in person interactions.
- Assist with the development and delivery of programs aimed at the youth and young adult demographic.
- Maintain and communicate building safety protocol to Arts Station attendees.
- Reports directly to the Executive Director of FDAC.
- Fill out a daily activity log.
Expectations
- 12 hours per week.
- Be flexible to complete other duties as assigned.
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends.
- The role can be catered to develop the applicant interests and future goals. The position includes mentoring and professional development opportunities to help build skills.
Compensation: $16-18 per hour
Contract length: 5 months
