Wednesday Social Events Coordinator
Contract Position – Summer 2025

The Fernie & District Arts Council is seeking a dynamic and organized individual to join our team as the Wednesday Social Events Coordinator. This role supports the successful delivery of the Wednesday Social—a vibrant, weekly outdoor community event held at Station Square in downtown Fernie. The Events Coordinator will work closely with the Executive Director and Arts Station staff to ensure a smooth and engaging experience for performers, vendors, volunteers, and attendees.
General Responsibility
Pre-Event:
- Organize, count, and prepare liquor inventory
- Coordinate with volunteers and confirm scheduling
- Liaise with artists, performers, vendors, and contractors
Event Day:
- Assist with setup and takedown of event infrastructure
- Support liquor sales and manage beverage service
- Help with crowd flow and general event supervision
- Act as a liaison for performers, contractors, community groups, partners, and volunteers
Post-Event:
- Conduct inventory and organize remaining supplies
- Assist with clean-up and storage
- Contribute to post-event reporting and logistics
Additional Duties:
- Other tasks as assigned for the event
- Support other Arts Council projects and events as required
Requirements & Expectations
- Availability: Must be available to work Wednesdays from 3:00–11:00 PM on the following dates: July 9, 16, 23, 30 and August 6, 13, 20
- Additional hours will be required on Tuesdays and Thursdays for prep and follow-up
- Must be legally entitled to work in Canada and reside in Fernie or the surrounding area
- Must be 19+ years of age
- Serving It Right certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Comfortable working outdoors in hot summer weather and on your feet for extended periods
- Ability to lift, assemble, and store heavy items regularly
- Ability to use stairs in a multi-level heritage building (The Arts Station)
- Adhere to all health and safety procedures
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Previous experience with events and beverage service is ideal
Compensation & Hours
- $25/hour (contractor is responsible for own taxes)
- 10–15 hours per week
- Start: Late June/early July for pre-event preparation
- End: Last week of August after post-event wrap-up
