Rozzy Hibbard
Whimsical Wonders
Artist Statement
This solo exhibition is an exploration of the stories within my imagination told through character based illustrative works. Each work is a window into the invisible world that I see beyond the physical, where whimsical characters venture and teach us simple truths. The overall themes within the exhibition will include friendship, simplicity, courage, the beauty of wonder and the world of the imaginative. This collection of works is designed to evoke a feeling of wonder so the viewers can reconnect with the imagination of childhood innocence and unhindered curiosity, free from the complexities of the real world…even if it is just for a moment.
Each piece is standalone and also part of a collective of parallel stories that coexist within the ‘’whimsical wonders universe’’. Some works will contain the same characters and others will be solo representations, eclectically cohesively connected by their illustrative style, bold colours and playful line work. The works are mixed media, with both painted and drawn elements, including watercolour, inks, acrylics, pencils and paint pens. My material choice also pays homage to more traditional illustrative practices in our very digitally creative age as a connective link to my works and explored themes. I am inspired by the charming works of artists such as Beatrix Potter, Andy J PIzza, Oliver Jeffers, Shaun Tan and Megan Marie Myers.
This exhibition with its whimsical focus emanates the fun that can exist and does exist in the world of creativity. Its light hearted colourful aura speaks across age and cultural boundaries, speaking to the heartbeat of the imagination we all posses. In an age where children seem to lose their childhood younger and younger, this exhibition celebrates the pure season of childhood as one to cherish, savour and even carry into adulthood.
Artist Biography
Rozzy Hibbard is a self-taught artist, illustrator, and designer. Born and raised in Australia, she grew up surrounded by dry, rugged landscapes that sparked a vivid imagination and led her into a world of colourful, creative contrast.
Captivated by the power of storytelling, she believes imagination acts as a dress rehearsal for the courage real life requires. She has never quite grown up in the conventional sense, choosing instead to see the world through a lens of wonder, always searching for the deeper spiritual story within each moment. Her work reflects this layered perspective—playful on the surface, yet rich with insight beneath, much like childlike wonder itself: beautifully simple yet profoundly complex.
Her creations are inspired by the “imaginative wonderful” and are expressed with a whimsical, joyful spirit. The innocence and faith of childhood continue to shape her artistic lens, allowing her to see and share the world as a place full of joy and colour. Drawn naturally to pattern and symbolism, she explores these themes using a variety of mediums. Her paintings incorporate acrylics, inks, pencils, paint pens, and watercolours, while her 3D pieces often feature found objects and repurposed treasures.
She draws inspiration from illustrators and storytellers such as C.S. Lewis, Beatrix Potter, Megan Marie Myers, and Andy J. Pizza, whose imaginative worlds echo the depth and delight found in her own work.
