General Information
- All programming at The Arts Station is subsidised through grants, donations, and sponsorship. We offer programming at different pricing levels to ensure everyone has an opportunity to access the arts. In some cases, programs may be more heavily subsidised due to specific funding received. We are ankle to do this as we are a Charity.
- We encourage participants to carefully read the event description to understand what is being offered. More affordable programs may include fewer materials or amenities, which is reflected in the price.
- Prices also vary depending on who is teaching them. Highly skilled professional artist are paid more as they have more knowledge to share. If artists are coming from out of town costs include their travel and lodging.
- Building Etiquette. Community.
- Refund Policy: Our general refund policy is 72 hours before the program start time. Special events may have a longer refund policy due to out-of-town artists, preparation costs, or contractual obligations. Please refer to the event description for specific details.
- Refunds are administered after receiving an email to info@theartsstation.com. We do not issue refunds over the phone or via the answering machine. Refunds are issued to the payment method that was used to book the program and may take several business days to appear.
- Photos or videos may be taken during workshops or events for promotional purposes. Please notify staff upon arrival if you do not wish to be included.
- We aim to create a respectful, inclusive, and safe environment. Disruptive or inappropriate behaviour may result in removal from the programs without refund. Our Code of conduct can be found here as well as reporting.
Workshop FAQ
Why can I not receive a refund within 72 hours?
By this time, preparation has already begun, including purchasing materials and allocating instructor time. Late cancellations make it difficult to ensure our instructors are paid fairly and that workshops remain financially viable. Minimum registration numbers are required for a workshop to proceed, and last-minute changes can impact this.
What if I can’t attend or miss my workshop?
Missed workshops or no-shows are non-refundable and cannot be rescheduled, as materials, space, and instructor time have already been allocated.
Can someone else attend in my place?
In most cases, you may transfer your registration to another participant in the same age category by notifying us in advance. Please contact us to confirm approval.
Are workshops accessible?
We strive to create inclusive and accessible programming. If you have access needs, mobility considerations, sensory sensitivities, or require accommodations, please contact us in advance so we can discuss how best to support you.
Is this workshop suitable for beginners?
Workshops are clearly labelled by skill level. Please review descriptions to ensure the workshop aligns with your experience.
Types of workshops:
Experience: Aimed to provide a fun experience and try something new.
Beginner: Aimed to provide an intro to an artform
Skill building: Aimed to get you working independently in an artform
Intermediate: Aimed to build on previously learnt skills to continue developing.
Will I master the art form in any of these workshops?
No, it takes years of dedicated practice to become highly skilled in an art practice. Artists never stop learning or spending time practicing their craft.
Why can my child not attend an adult workshop or a different age group?
Youth and adult workshops are structured and taught differently to best suit the needs of each group.
- Youth workshops prioritise child-safe environments, and instructors undergo appropriate background checks.
- Adult workshops are designed to create an environment appropriate for adult participants.
- Some events are 19+ due to liquor laws and/or content.
For these reasons, participants must register for workshops that align with the specified age group.
What is included in the cost of a workshop?
Each event description will outline what is included in the workshop fee. This may include instruction, materials, admin time, and occasionally additional items such as a beverage. Also any post workshop finishing.
Most workshops include materials; however, these are typically limited to one item per participant and sufficient quantities to complete the intended project.
Pottery Workshop FAQ
How do I register for a pottery workshop?
Workshop registration is first come first serve, so set a timer! To register, you can find the event in our Events Calendar.
*Event registration opens 3 weeks to the date and time of the event* Meaning if a workshop is set to begin on a Monday at 7pm then the registration will open on a Monday at 7pm 3 weeks prior.
When will the next workshop be offered?
We will continue to offer workshops as frequently as is possible. Pottery workshops have become very popular and the demand is high. We do not hold a waitlist.
How will I know when there is a workshop available?
Keep and eye on our workshops & events page. All pottery workshops will be in our events calendar.
Once I have participated in a workshop can I join the studio as an annual member?
All prospective annual members must complete the beginner intensive course. Pottery is not an activity that can be picked up without knowing the entire process. The process of making a piece is slow and takes place over several weeks.
Why does it take several weeks for me to receive my pottery pieces?
The pottery process takes time. Firstly the pieces have to dry, be trimmed before they can go through the kiln. They then need to be glazed (painted) and fired for a second time.
How long will my completed work be stored?
Finished pottery must be picked up within a specified timeframe 30 days from when we email you that it is ready for collection. We cannot guarantee long-term storage due to limited space.
What if my pottery breaks?
While we take great care in handling and firing all work, occasional breakage can occur during drying and kiln firing. Unfortunately, this is an inherent risk of the ceramics process and items cannot always be replaced or refunded.
Our workshops are designed as creative learning experiences. While the finished piece is a meaningful outcome, the true value lies in the process, exploration, and instruction you receive throughout the workshop.
